Border Security: NSA Commends Customs’ Proactiveness

The National Security Adviser, NSA, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has commended the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, for its proactive approach to border security and trade facilitation.
The NSA’s commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, to the NSA’s office on Thursday in Abuja.
CGC Adeniyi highlighted the NCS’s efforts in deploying advanced technology, including Geospatial technology, to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement across Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.

The NSA praised the NCS for its commitment to modernizing border management, noting that the Service’s proactive approach aligns with the government’s broader national security objectives.
“The Customs Service has demonstrated a commendable commitment to modernization and efficiency in securing our borders,” the NSA remarked. “Integrating advanced technology into border management is a step in the right direction and aligns perfectly with our broader national security objectives.”
In response, CGC Adeniyi expressed his appreciation for the NSA’s commendation, emphasizing the NCS’s dedication to leveraging technology to enhance border security and facilitate legitimate trade.
“We are committed to deploying cutting-edge solutions to combat smuggling, trafficking, and other transborder crimes,” CGC Adeniyi stated. “Our goal is to ensure that our borders are secure, while also facilitating seamless and legitimate cross-border transactions.”
CGC Adeniyi further explained that the NCS’s technology-driven initiatives are designed to align with international best practices, while addressing Nigeria’s unique border security challenges.
“Technology remains the key to effective border management in today’s rapidly evolving security landscape,” CGC Adeniyi noted. “We will continue to invest in advanced technology and build strategic partnerships to enhance our border security and trade facilitation efforts.”
The NSA assured the CGC of continued support for the NCS’s modernization agenda, emphasizing the need for synergy in intelligence sharing and operational coordination.
The meeting reiterated the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security threats and ensuring national stability.
