In a surprising turn of events, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a 48-hour suspension of all activities related to the allocation of Hajj seats to Private Tour Operators (PTOs).
This decision, INCNews247 gathered comes on the heels of recent accusations by some PTOs claiming discrepancies in the qualification process.
Recall on Sunday, December 10, 2023, NAHCON revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria had secured an additional 30 slots for the PTO sector, a significant increase from the previous 10 slots granted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Commission ssid it had meticulously selected successful PTOs based on a scoring system in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

However, discontent arose as some PTOs, unable to meet the required pass mark, voiced their grievances.
In response, NAHCON, through Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara in a statement said the Commission decided to prioritize transparency and integrity by temporarily halting the allocation process.
During the suspension period, PTOs with legitimate concerns regarding the qualification of any tour operator are encouraged to submit well-documented facts and figures supporting their claims.
NAHCON, Usara said is committed to conducting a fair and impartial investigation into these allegations, appointing an independent body to carry out an extensive review.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Arabi warned that baseless claims would not be tolerated, and those found making frivolous allegations would face consequences.
