Customs Seizes N1.568 Billion Worth of Illegal Arms, Military Gear in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the seizure of 55 pieces of unassembled semi-automatic shotguns and various military and paramilitary equipment at the Murtala Muhammed Area Command in Lagos.

According to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the items were concealed in a console consignment from Turkey and were discovered through intelligence from local and international collaborators.

The seized items include drones, ballistic vests, helmets, and plates, walkie-talkies, military badges, camouflage uniforms, and binoculars, with a total Duty Paid Value of N1.568 billion.

The Customs Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the illegal importation and is working with other agencies to apprehend all parties involved.

Adeniyi commended the officers involved in the seizure and warned that the Service will not tolerate any acts that threaten national security and economic prosperity.

This seizure comes on the heels of similar recent interceptions, indicating a trend of illegal arms importation from Turkey.

The Customs Service has assured that all commands are on high alert to intercept any such illicit arms imports.
