Defence Minister Hails Operation Delta Safe’s Fight Against Oil Theft

The Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has commended Operation Delta Safe for its sustained battle against oil theft and criminalities in the Niger Delta region.
During his maiden visit to the Nigerian Army 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Badaru praised the task force’s efforts, citing increased oil production as a testament to their success. He acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief of Defence Staff.
Badaru emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to combat oil theft, saying Nigerians hope to see oil drive national prosperity. “We commend the troops and encourage them to do more to put an end to oil theft.”

The Minister expressed confidence in defeating oil theft, citing increased oil production. “Certainly, we are seeing progress… Before the end of this year, you will see a tremendous increase in oil production.”
Badaru urged Operation Delta Safe to intensify measures in the Niger Delta to ensure increased oil production.
Major-General JH Abdussalam briefed the Minister on the 6 Division’s activities, highlighting strengthened troop capabilities and robust joint measures against oil thieves and criminal groups.
Operation Delta Safe pledged to sustain anti-oil theft operations until the Federal Government’s 2 million barrels per day target is achieved by December 2024.
