DHQ X Account Hacked, Warns Nigerians Against Fake Posts

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ has alerted Nigerians to the compromise of its official X account, formerly known as Twitter.
The DHQ, in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter.
It said technical measures had been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.

The military authorities urged members of the public, the media and other stakeholders to disregard suspicious, unauthorised or misleading contents that might be posted on the account during the period.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform members of the public, the media and all stakeholders that it has detected a compromise of its official X (formerly Twitter) account,” the statement said.
The DHQ assured Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to fully restore control of the account.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of information security and ensuring that the public continued to receive accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The statement added that further updates would be provided as necessary.
Meanwhile, the DHQ urged Nigerians to rely on its verified channels on other social media platforms for official information.
The alternative channels listed by the military authorities include the Defence Headquarters Nigeria Facebook page, Instagram handle, @defenceheadquarters, and the Defence Headquarters Nigeria WhatsApp Channel.
