The lawmaker representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ifeoluwa Babajide Ehindero, has described the media as a critical partner in promoting national development.
Ehindero also pledged to collaborate with the Association of Corporate Online Editors, ACOE to strengthen information dissemination and support responsible journalism.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing stated this on Wednesday while receiving members of the association who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in the National Assembly, Abuja.
The lawmaker commended the ethics and values upheld by the association, particularly within the online media space, describing the organisation as a noble platform for professional journalism.

He said the media played a crucial role in shaping public perception and supporting democratic governance, noting that lawmakers could not effectively perform their duties without partnering with the press.
“Looking at the responsibilities we have as lawmakers and politicians, there is no way we can do this job successfully without partnering with the media,” Ehindero said.
He also appreciated journalists for their support during his political journey to the National Assembly, stating that the backing he received from the media during the build-up to the elections contributed significantly to his success.
Ehindero praised the leadership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for creating opportunities for young lawmakers to take up leadership responsibilities in the 10th National Assembly.
According to him, since his election into the House of Representatives, he has initiated several developmental programmes for his constituents in Akoko North-East and North-West Federal Constituency.
He disclosed that more than 60 youths from the constituency had secured employment in various government agencies and parastatals through his efforts.
The lawmaker added that within his first 100 days in office, about six to seven Primary Healthcare Centres in the constituency were renovated and equipped with medical facilities.
Ehindero further revealed that over 350 pregnant women also received delivery support packages as part of efforts to improve maternal healthcare in the area.
“All these happened within 100 days. These are things we’ve been able to achieve within a short period of time, and we still have a lot of vision,” he said.
He also hinted at plans to organise a large-scale empowerment programme for constituents within the next two months and expressed optimism that the association would help amplify the initiative.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of Corporate Online Editors, ACOE, Shola Akingboye, commended Ehindero for his support for journalists and youth development.
Akingboye described the lawmaker as a friend of the media, noting that he had supported several initiatives aimed at empowering young people and promoting access to education.
He said the association was willing to partner with the lawmaker to highlight his legislative activities, oversight responsibilities and empowerment programmes.
According to him, such collaboration would help showcase the impact of his contributions in the National Assembly.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the “Champion of Journalists Award” to Ehindero in recognition of his contributions to the welfare of journalists and his empowerment initiatives for women, youths and vulnerable groups.
The lawmaker was also decorated with a symbolic muffler of the association, signifying his support and relationship with ACOE.
