Olasupo Abideen, a consultant and Executive Director of Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), has repaid a sum of 2,397 USD (approximately 1.29 million naira) that was erroneously put into his bank account by an organization for whom he provided consulting services.
Under the FCDO CovidAction supported project, Olasupo, a trained alumnus of both Harvard Business School and Lagos Business School, was engaged as a Business Development Consultant with entrepreneurs across three continents.
He was paid for a Technical Assistance function he supplied to a Bangladesh business called mCare on May 28, 2021, before being paid for the same task again on Friday, August 13th.
Olasupo was surprised when he got the alert said he reached out to the organization via email.
According to him, “I informed them of the error and that I was not expecting such payment from them. I had been paid for the work done.”
“So, I subsequently refunded the money to the organisation’s bank account on Monday 16th of May, 2021.”
For the gesture, the organisation thanked him for the swift response, and also appreciated his honesty, accountability and transparency.
“As an advocate of transparency and accountability in leadership and governance, it behooves on me to demonstrate what I preach,” Olasupo said in a chat with INCNews247.
The consultant added that he was also putting into practice the transparency and prevention of corruption training he received at the UNGASS.
Recall in May 2021, Olasupo was selected alongside Chioma Ogbonna to represent Nigeria in a virtual youth Forum of the United Nations Special Session of the General Assembly (UNGASS) on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation.
