FRSC Reaffirms Commitment to UN Road Safety Campaign

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has reiterated its dedication to achieving the goals of the United Nations campaign against road traffic crashes.
This commitment was made by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, at a one-day seminar held at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, March 24, 2025.
According to Corps Marshal Mohammed, Nigeria has consistently been at the forefront of global efforts to combat road traffic crashes.
The FRSC, as the lead agency for road traffic management and safety administration in the country, has been actively involved in road safety campaigns at various levels.

Mohammed recalled that the FRSC was well-represented at the first global road safety conference in Moscow, Russia, in 2009, which led to the UN’s declaration of 2011-2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety.
He emphasized that Nigeria, under the FRSC’s auspices, was one of the first countries to activate the global campaign.
The Corps Marshal expressed appreciation to road safety stakeholders and NGOs for their unwavering support.
He specifically commended Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, founder of Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD), for her patriotic role in promoting road safety.
In her remarks, Justice Dongban-Mensem who doubles as President of the Court of Appeal praised the FRSC’s consistency in promoting safer road environments.
She urged NGOs to intensify their advocacy efforts and pledged her organization’s willingness to pursue road safety goals with greater aggression.
The seminar featured expert discussions reviewing the Marrakech declaration and providing recommendations for future action.
Nigeria’s commitment to road safety was recognized with the public presentation of two awards won by the country.
The event brought together road safety NGOs, FRSC principal officers, and other stakeholders.
