Gov AbdulRazaq Spends Monthly on Security Operations in Kwara — SSG

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Kwara State Government has said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been committing huge monthly resources to support military and other security operations across the state as part of efforts to tackle rising insecurity.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Shuaib Abdulganiy, disclosed this while speaking with Defence Editors in Ilorin.

Abdulganiy said insecurity was a national challenge and not peculiar to Kwara State, stressing that the governor had continued to provide logistics and operational support to federal security agencies despite security being on the exclusive legislative list.

According to him, the state government has funded military operations in the three senatorial districts for over one year, particularly in flashpoints such as Edu, Patigi, Oro-Ago and Kaiama.

He said, “His Excellency has been releasing funds to the military for these operations for more than one year now. Every month, the government provides support for fuelling, feeding allowances and other logistics.”

He added that the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other security agencies had also been receiving financial assistance from the state government for special deployments and intelligence operations.

The permanent secretary disclosed that the government recently supported the deployment of drones and surveillance technology to tackle insecurity in parts of the state.

He further revealed that AbdulRazaq had constituted a nine-member security strategy committee chaired by a retired Director of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General Abdullahi Abdulwahab (retd.), to fashion out long-term security solutions for the state.

According to him, members of the committee include retired generals, air force officers and other security experts of Kwara origin.

He said the committee had already visited security formations and vulnerable communities across the state to gather intelligence and assess the situation.

Abdulganiy also called on residents to stop politicising insecurity and instead support security agencies with actionable intelligence.

“Insecurity affects everybody irrespective of political affiliation. When attackers invade communities, they do not ask who belongs to APC or PDP or other parties,” he said.

He urged communities to embrace vigilance and self-defence measures while cooperating with security operatives to curb criminal activities.
