The Kubwa Branch of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has organized its 2nd Annual Ramadan Lecture on Saturday, focusing on deliberate homicide in Islam.

The event, held at the FCDA Owner’s Occupier Jumaat Mosque in Kubwa, Abuja, was prompted by the recent murder of Lawal Yetunde Hafsoh Adefalu, allegedly by a self-acclaimed cleric, Abdulrahman Moh’d Ballo, in Ilorin.

The Guest Speaker, Ustadh Dr. Abdulhayi Abdulkadir Oloyin strongly condemned deliberate homicide, citing Quranic verses 5:32 and 4:29.

According to him, Quran 5 verse 32 states that: “Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.”

Dr. Oloyin also referenced Quranic verse 4:29, which states: “And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.”

He emphasized that Islam views deliberate homicide as a serious violation of human value and divine law, and attributed the increasing cases to societal ills like the “quick rich syndrome, fame, envy, and others”.

Dr. Oloyin warned that deliberate homicide attracts severe punishment in Islam, including hellfire, payment of blood money, and non-stop fasting.

He urged Muslims to uphold the teachings of Islam, prioritizing the sanctity of human life, peace, justice, and compassion.

In his welcome address, IEDPU Kubwa Branch Chairman who doubles as FCT Chairman, Alhaji Lukman Atanda Abdullah condemned the murder, stating it is alien to Ilorin culture and values.

He enjoined youths to fear God and avoid the “quick rich syndrome.”

“The theme and topic of our lecture, ‘Deliberate Homicide: A Nefarious Act Against Islam,’ was deliberately chosen to address the recent occurrence in our society,” Alhaji Abdullah said.

“We must join our leaders and other eminent people to condemn in strong terms the gruesome murder of Lawal Yetunde Hafsoh Adefalu in Ilorin by one Abdulrahman.”

The lecture aimed to address the recent occurrence in society and promote a culture of respect for human life.

The event was well-attended by members of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union and other concerned citizens.
