IEDPU Northern Zone Raises Concerns Over Federal Appointments, Insecurity, Others

During the 48th Annual Convention of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU Northern Zone in Suleja recently, participants voiced concerns over the conspicuous absence of Ilorin indigenes in key federal appointments.
The discussions, which took center stage during the event, stressed the imperative of a more inclusive approach to federal appointments, advocating for equitable opportunities to ensure the representation of the Ilorin community at the national level.
Simultaneously, concerns echoed through the convention halls regarding the escalating insecurity and restlessness observed among the youth within the Ilorin Emirate.

Attendees highlighted the pressing need to address these issues promptly, recognizing the potential repercussions for the community if left unattended. The discussions underscored the importance of proactive measures to curb the growing sense of unease among the youth, emphasizing the significance of community-wide efforts and collaboration.
The theme of the convention, “Ilorin Emirate: A Unique Community in Nigeria” as highlighted by the guest speaker, Maolana Sayyid Musa Aloba, revolves around the uniqueness of the Ilorin Emirate. It emphasizes Ilorin as a cosmopolitan city, stressing the importance of maintaining its distinct cultural heritage and upholding Islam as the only religion accepted by the majority.
Earlier, IEDPU Northern Zone Chairman, Ahmed Shehu Moyosore Esq, in his opening address, lauded the legacy of the Zone as the “Father of all the Zones” and highlighted the union’s commitment to its 48th annual convention.
He emphasized the need for continued support in completing the ICT/CBT Center project championed by the Zone along Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin.
Moyosore expressed concerns over the lack of Ilorin indigenes in federal appointments and the rise of insecurity and youth restlessness in the Emirate. He also urged a focus on fair and rule-based elections within the union and expressed gratitude to those contributing to the convention’s success.
In his remarks, the National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, expressed gratitude for the support accorded him so far as the helmsman of the Union, highlighting his achievements such as palliative efforts, construction projects, constitutional amendments, and the resolution of crises within the Central Zone.
He stressed the need for continued cooperation and unity within the Northern Zone, commending its peaceful and cohesive nature.
Uthman also congratulated honorees, encouraging them to contribute to community unity and progress. He concluded by urging continued service to the community and the selection of trustworthy leaders for the union.
Also, Alhaji Olayinka Adam, Chairman of IEDPU Suleja Branch, extended a warm welcome to attendees at the convention. He noted the importance of unity and progress, expressing delight in hosting the event in Suleja.
Adam encouraged meaningful discussions and networking to strengthen the bonds of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union.
Prominent among the attendees were National President Alhaji Otta Aliyu Uthman, fsi, National Vice President ACG Abdulmumeen Malik, National Secretary Mallam Abubakar Imam, Chairman of the National Conference Planning Committee Alhaji Bolakale Yusuf, Chairman of the Central Zone Alhaji Ahmad Amode and his entourage, Representative of the Chairman of the Western Zone Alhaji Salihu Aileru Oluwadare, Chairman of the South-South Alhaji Sekoni (who sent his apologies), Alhaji Isa Young Onilu, and other guests who traveled from various locations.
As the convention concluded, a unified call for swift action resonated among the participants, urging authorities to address the issues of limited federal representation and youth insecurity in the Ilorin Emirate. The outcomes of the convention signal a collective determination to tackle these challenges head-on, emphasizing the community’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and secure future.
