Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Tuesday endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The governor, in a statement confirmed by INCNews247, said the endorsement followed “extensive consultations with party structures and leadership.”
AbdulRazaq described Yahaya Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded,” adding that the APC chieftain had built strong political goodwill and investments among the people of Kwara State.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the APC,” the governor stated.

He added that Yahaya Seriki possessed the capacity to lead the state and that his emergence would be appropriate for Kwara at this time.
The governor, however, clarified that the endorsement did not stop other aspirants from participating in the party’s gubernatorial primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
AbdulRazaq urged party leaders and members to support Seriki’s candidacy in the interest of unity, cohesion, and the continued success of the party in the state.
The governor noted that the choice of Seriki should not be interpreted as a rejection of other aspirants seeking the APC ticket.
According to him, all the aspirants are qualified and have shown commitment to sustaining the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
“In a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time,” he said.
AbdulRazaq also commended the aspirants for what he described as their discipline, statesmanship, and capacity to contribute to the development of Kwara State.
The endorsement comes ahead of the APC governorship primaries as political activities intensify in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
