Kwara Gov Mourns Death of Renowned Geologist, Prof. Mosobalaje Olaloye Oyawoye

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has Monday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Prof. Mosobalaje Olaloye Oyawoye (CON); Africa’s first Professor of Geology.
In a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, his Chief Press Secretary, AbdulRazaq described the loss as a significant one for the nation, highlighting Prof. Oyawoye’s immense contributions to academia, community service, and statesmanship.
The Governor extended his condolences to the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, the Olofa-In-Council, the Muslim community of Kwara State, and the Oyawoye family.

AbdulRazaq emphasised that Prof. Oyawoye was not only one of the greatest Nigerians of all time but also a source of pride for Kwara State.
The late professor’s passing marks the end of an era characterized by outstanding academic achievements and a commitment to serving the community and the nation.
Prof. Oyawoye was widely recognised for his philanthropic endeavours, academic accomplishments, community service, leadership qualities, and support for national development.
His contributions were instrumental in shaping the field of geology in Africa, earning him the title of the “father of Geology in Africa.”
Additionally, as a respected Crown Prince of Offa, he wielded significant influence and utilised it for the betterment of society.
The Governor acknowledged the void left by Prof. Oyawoye’s demise, which will be deeply felt by the people of Offa, Kwara State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Governor AbdulRazaq urged the community to take solace in the enduring legacy left behind by the late geologist, expressing gratitude for his remarkable accomplishments.
He offered prayers for Prof. Oyawoye’s eternal rest and requested that Allah forgives any shortcomings he may have had, beseeching that the late professor’s family receives guidance and strength during this difficult period.
