Kwara Guber Race: Coalition Endorses Oloriegbe, Cites Record, Capacity

A coalition of stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress, APC comprising professionals, youth groups and grassroots mobilisers, has thrown its weight behind Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as a leading aspirant for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

The coalition, which addressed a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, said Oloriegbe’s performance at the National Assembly positions him as a credible contender with the competence and experience required to lead the state.

Spokespersons for the group argued that the senator’s legislative track record and constituency interventions demonstrate his readiness to take on the responsibilities of executive office.

They noted that within his four-year tenure in the Senate, Oloriegbe sponsored 15 bills, 11 of which were passed, while four were assented to by the President, including the National Health Insurance Authority Act and the Mental Health Act.

According to the coalition, the legislations have significantly improved healthcare access and regulatory frameworks, while addressing the needs of vulnerable groups nationwide.

“His record in the Senate shows a clear ability to translate ideas into impactful policies. That level of productivity, if replicated at the state level, will accelerate development across Kwara,” the group said.

The coalition further credited the former lawmaker with attracting key federal projects to the state, including the establishment of a Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Budo-Egba, as well as the siting of facilities for the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

It also listed the Idi-Isin Comprehensive Health Centre, affiliated with the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH as part of Oloriegbe’s contributions to strengthening the healthcare system in the state.

Beyond infrastructure, the group said the senator facilitated more than 350 federal employment opportunities for Kwarans and implemented empowerment programmes targeting youths, women and artisans.

“These interventions reflect a leadership style that prioritises inclusion, human capital development and long-term impact,” the coalition stated.

The group maintained that Oloriegbe’s ability to deliver results despite institutional and resource limitations at the legislative level reaffirms his preparedness for the broader demands of governance.

It, therefore, urged party stakeholders to place emphasis on proven capacity, performance and vision in the selection of the APC’s governorship candidate.

“Oloriegbe represents a blend of experience, competence and results-driven leadership. His track record offers a dependable preview of what Kwara stands to gain under his governorship,” the coalition added.

The coalition noted that the state requires leadership capable of sustaining progress and driving inclusive growth, expressing confidence that Oloriegbe possesses the qualities to meet those expectations.
