Kwara Govt Unveils Policy to Combat Malnutrition

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to continue waging war against malnutrition among the citizens, especially the women and vulnerable groups in the State.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Olasumbo Oyeyemi, stated this in a statement signed by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Daibu Abubakar, on Saturday in Ilorin.

According to the statement, Oyeyemi made this known after the state committee meeting to unveil a policy document on Food and Nutrition.

She said this administration came up with the policy document and a Multi-Sectoral Plan of Actions to stem the cases of stunted growth hampering the physical and mental fitness of little children.

The commissioner said the step was borne out of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s responsiveness to the well-being of the downtrodden in the state.

She charged members of the committee to commit themselves to the realisation of the policy document as it was targeted at eradicating malnutrition in the state.

The statement further reported the Chairman, State Committee on Food and Nutrition, Dr. Yakub Jaja, as praising Gov. AbdulRazaq for being passionate about the welfare of the less-privileged.

Dr. Jaja, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, appreciated the committee members for playing an active role towards the domestication of the National Policy on Food and Nutrition in the state. (NAN)
