The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a public advisory, cautioning Nigerians against using unauthorised websites to modify their National Identification Number (NIN) data.

In a statement released on Monday and sent to INCNews247, the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, warned that only the official NIMC Self-Service Modification Portal (selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng) should be used for NIN modifications.

Dr. Adegoke assured Nigerians that the official portal is secure, protecting users from identity theft and data breaches.

He cautioned that using unverified platforms could compromise personal information, leading to potential security risks.

The NIMC highlighted the convenience of the new Self-Service Modification Portal, which allows citizens to update their details from anywhere at any time, ensuring a more efficient and secure process.

The Commission urged Nigerians to always verify sources before submitting their personal data online.

For inquiries, individuals can visit the NIMC website on www.nimc.gov.ng, email nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng, or call the customer care line at 0700-225-564-62.

NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national identity data and providing seamless services for all Nigerians.
