NIS Partners Kwara NUJ to Enhance Border Security

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with journalists in the state to promote media coverage on issues related to the security of the nation’s territorial integrity.
During a courtesy visit by the Ahmed ‘Lanre Abdullateef-led Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to the state NIS command’s headquarters in Ilorin, the State Comptroller of NIS, Mrs. Iyabode Olawunmi Okuwa-Idris, emphasized the importance of collaborating with the media to inform and sensitize the public about the service’s activities.
Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Francis Jonah Udo, praised the professionalism of Kwara State journalists, noting that they have maintained high standards in reporting.

He highlighted the challenges faced by NIS officers in securing the nation’s borders, particularly in some communities in Kaiama and Baruten local government areas.
Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Olumayowa Kabir Aliyu, expressed concern about the increasing number of youths leaving the country through unauthorized routes in search of greener pastures.
He urged the NUJ to educate young people about the dangers of illegal migration.
Kwara State NUJ Chairman, Ahmed ‘Lanre Abdullateef, commended the NIS for its efforts to reduce illegal immigration and emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the NIS and the media to keep the public informed about the agency’s activities.
