The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotion Limited and the Centre for Crisis Communication, has won two 2026 Golden World Awards of the International Public Relations Association.

The Nigerian partners were recognised in the Artificial Intelligence for Crisis Management and Publications categories at the global awards ceremony held at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, Greece.

According to the IPRA, the winning entry in the Artificial Intelligence for Crisis Management category, titled “AI for Crisis Communication: From Study to Strategy,” was submitted by Image Merchants Promotion Limited with NITDA and the Centre for Crisis Communication as clients.

The award recognises an initiative built around research into the application of artificial intelligence to crisis communication and the subsequent establishment of the Crisis Communication Hub.

The research, which examined the challenges and prospects of using AI in Nigeria’s crisis communication ecosystem, identified the potential of artificial intelligence for real-time monitoring, threat detection and strategic communication within appropriate governance frameworks.

The findings subsequently contributed to the creation of the Crisis Communication Hub, a multi-stakeholder platform designed to bring together security agencies, media organisations and technology professionals to strengthen the detection and management of digital threats.

The IPRA said the platform focuses on identifying fake news, hate speech and disinformation while supporting proactive public communication and responses to emerging crises.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence to generate and distribute misleading information, including deepfakes and other forms of digitally manipulated content.

The organisers said the 2026 Golden World Awards attracted entries from more than 40 countries, with 96 winners eventually announced across the competition’s categories.

The awards ceremony was held in Athens on September 25, 2026.

The awards were formally received in Athens by Hajiya Hadiza Umar, representing NITDA, and Professor Yau Sule of IMPR.
