The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at enhancing the security of corps members across the country.

The Director-General of NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Nafiu congratulated Disu on his appointment and commended him for the recent inauguration of a special tactical team, noting that the police had remained instrumental to the success of NYSC activities since its establishment.

He appealed for sustained and enhanced security for corps members and NYSC officials both within and outside orientation camps, especially as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The NYSC boss also urged the police to ensure the protection of corps members’ properties, including lodges nationwide.

“The Police have always played a critical role in the success of the Scheme. We are seeking continued support to guarantee the safety of our corps members wherever they are posted,” he said.

Nafiu further raised the issue of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy, explaining that the NYSC Act exempts members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies from national service.

He expressed the need for collaboration with the academy’s management to facilitate the issuance of certificates of exemption to its graduates in line with statutory provisions.

Responding, Disu assured that the police would sustain efforts to secure the Scheme, adding that the addresses of corps lodges nationwide were already available to the force for prompt response when necessary.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to provide the needed security for NYSC operations. We have the details of corps lodges and will act appropriately as situations demand,” he said.

The IGP described the proposal for exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy as a welcome development and pledged continued cooperation with the NYSC.
