•Donates Delivery Kits to 200 Expectant Mothers
Hajia Maimunat Oloriegbe’s non-governmental organization, Matta Girls Foundation, has made significant strides in enhancing maternal and neonatal health care by equipping two primary health centres in Kwara State with Newborn Corners and providing delivery kits to 200 expectant mothers. This initiative, part of a capital project executed in collaboration with the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH) Budo-Egba, has improved the Ogele (Asa LGA) and Magaji Okaka Primary Health Center (Ilorin South LGA), increasing the total number of facilities supported in Kwara Central to eight within the past four years.

At the commissioning ceremonies on Tuesday, 12th November 2024, Hajia Oloriegbe reiterated her commitment to addressing neonatal and maternal mortality and ensuring that all babies delivered in these facilities receive essential medical care from birth. She detailed that the newly established Newborn Corners are equipped with advanced technology and instruments aimed at preventing complications during labour and enhancing health outcomes for both mothers and newborns. Given the pressing issue of neonatal mortality rates in Nigeria, she asserted that such initiatives are vital for saving lives and fostering safer delivery practices for at-risk mothers and babies.
Hajia Oloriegbe also urged expectant mothers to attend antenatal care sessions and to deliver their babies in the upgraded health centres. She emphasized that this strategy would guarantee immediate access to high-quality care, thereby diminishing the likelihood of complications that contribute to neonatal and maternal fatalities.
The Chairpersons of Asa and Ilorin South Local Government Areas, Alhaji Sheu Yahaya and Hon. Abdulmajeed Bolakale Podo commended Hajia Oloriegbe for her unwavering dedication to the welfare of vulnerable populations. They expressed appreciation on behalf of their constituents, recognizing that the Newborn Corners and Mama Kits would substantially improve maternal and newborn health outcomes and contribute to safer delivery experiences. They extended prayers for continued blessings upon Hajia Oloriegbe and her family.
The event also included the distribution of delivery kits to two hundred expectant mothers associated with the two health facilities. Notable attendees comprised Aare of Ogele Town, Alhaji Abubakar Ishola; Magaji Okaka, Alhaji Saliman Baba; Medical Director of FNPH Budo-Egba, Professor Baba Awoye Issa; representatives from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, including Engineer Stephen Emezue; representatives from WHO, Development Officers; health department heads; community leaders; and political representatives from Asa and Ilorin South Local Government Areas.
This initiative forms part of a comprehensive health strategy aimed at mitigating Nigeria’s alarmingly high neonatal mortality rate, which ranks among the highest globally. Through the establishment of Newborn Corners and the provision of critical supplies, the Matta Girls Foundation seeks to effect measurable improvements in reducing maternal and neonatal mortalities, particularly within underserved communities, by supplying the necessary resources for safe deliveries.
