Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has pledged to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, to ensure a safer road environment.
This commitment came during a courtesy visit from FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, on Monday.
Lokpobiri congratulated Mohammed on his appointment and expressed optimism about the National Road Safety Strategy, inaugurated by the Vice President last week.

He praised FRSC’s efforts in reducing road crashes through initiatives like Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme and Drivers’ certification.
However, the Minister voiced concerns about frequent petroleum tanker crashes, resulting in loss of lives and property.
He emphasized the need for alternative transportation methods but noted the current impracticality due to hazards and costs.
To address this, Lokpobiri sought FRSC’s support in streamlining depot activities, ensuring only safety-compliant tankers load petroleum products.
He offered Ministry support for FRSC logistics and training to enhance road traffic management.
Earlier, Mohammed commended the Minister’s petroleum industry reforms and requested collaboration for sustained peace in the oil industry, noting FRSC is deploying personnel to major depots to enforce safety rules and regulations.
The meeting concluded with agreements to sustain partnership for highway safety and petroleum product transportation stability.
