Both Damascus and Aleppo airports play a dual role, serving both civil aviation and military purposes, notably as transit points for Iranian arms destined for Hezbollah. The militant group holds considerable influence in Syria and Lebanon.
The impact of the missile strikes was considerable, rendering both airports inoperative as the runways sustained significant damage.
This marks the second occasion in recent weeks that these crucial facilities have been targeted by Israel.
