TCN Arrests 24-Year-Old Suspected Vandal at Benin Transmission Substation

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly vandalising electrical installations at its 330kV switchyard in the Benin Sub-Region.

The suspect, identified as Wisdom Amaunam, from Erediauwa Community, was apprehended at about 10am on Thursday, October 22, 2026, while allegedly removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk within the facility.

A security officer on patrol reportedly caught the suspect in the act and immediately apprehended him before handing him over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.

The suspect is currently in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.

In a statement signed by its Management and dated November 5, 2026, TCN commended its security personnel and the NSCDC for their vigilance and collaboration in protecting critical national power infrastructure.

The company reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on vandalism, trespassing and sabotage, warning that attacks on transmission facilities could undermine electricity supply and compromise the stability of the national grid.

It also urged host communities and members of the public to report suspicious activities around transmission installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
