President Bola Tinubu has nominated a former Nigerian Ambassador to Türkiye, Amb. Ismail Abba Yusuf, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON.
The nomination, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is subject to confirmation by the Senate in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.

Tinubu has forwarded a letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, seeking the expeditious screening and confirmation of the nominee.
Yusuf’s nomination follows the resignation of the immediate past chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, who stepped down earlier this week after about 14 months in office.
Until his nomination, Yusuf served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye between 2021 and 2024.
The appointment comes amid preparations for the 2026 Hajj, with stakeholders in the pilgrimage sector expecting seamless coordination and policy continuity under a new leadership, subject to Senate approval.
