President Bola Tinubu on Thursday launched the NINAuth App, a mobile-based identity authentication platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), with a charge to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the new technology for staff and data verification.

Speaking at the State House, Abuja, during the official unveiling, the President said his administration remains committed to building a credible, secure, and verifiable national identity management system, describing it as a critical foundation for achieving Nigeria’s development aspirations.

“Today’s official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database. This innovation marks yet another milestone in our collective pursuit of a digitally empowered Nigeria,” he said.

Tinubu said the innovation aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the deployment of technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance.

He explained that the app will place Nigeria among technologically advanced nations, providing citizens with seamless, secure, and inclusive access to essential services while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and national security.

“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System is fundamental to our national development goals. It supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances our security architecture, and ensures accurate population data for evidence-based planning,” the President stated.

Tinubu said the introduction of the new app would simplify public service delivery, eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, and reduce opportunities for inefficiency and corruption.

“With this application, we are simplifying access, reducing bureaucratic interference, and closing the gaps within which inefficiency and corruption can thrive,” he added.

The President assured that the platform would improve electoral integrity, healthcare delivery, and equitable distribution of social benefits.

“My fellow Nigerians, the future we seek is one where technology empowers every citizen and where trust in governance is built on efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness,” Tinubu said.

“The launch of this application demonstrates that the promises we have made as a government are being responsibly measured and are manifesting in tangible reforms that improve daily life.”

“Together, we are building a nation where every identity counts and every citizen must matter,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, lauded the President for his commitment to strengthening identity management as a tool for national development and security.

“Your Excellency, you are solving tomorrow’s problems with technology. Every nation that desires to be efficient must first build systems that can identify, authenticate, and secure its citizens. Identity is not just an administrative requirement; it is the backbone of governance, national security, and service delivery,” Tunji-Ojo said.

The Director-General of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the NINAuth App would curb the challenge of multiple data records among citizens while enabling real-time verification for both government and private sector use.

“It is important that every single business or enterprise in this country, whether small, medium, or large, can have access to verifiable identity credentials of citizens — and the same for government institutions,” she said.

Coker-Odusote disclosed that NIMC had so far enrolled 126.7 million Nigerians, with about 25 million of those captured in the past two years.

She added that the commission currently records an average of 1.3 million verification requests daily through its digital systems.

The new application is expected to enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, strengthen public trust, and boost access to services across sectors.

The event was attended by senior government officials, technology experts, and representatives from the private sector.
