Troops Rescue 360 Captives in Mandara Mountains, Kill 76 Terrorists in North-East

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 76 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP fighters, arrested 97 suspected terrorists and rescued 465 kidnapped victims during operations in the North-East in June, the Defence Headquarters has said.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Wednesday during the Defence Headquarters’ monthly operational briefing in Abuja.
According to him, the highlight of the operations was the rescue of 360 civilians, mostly women and children, from terrorist captivity during a coordinated multi-axis offensive in the Mandara Mountains, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, on June 6.

He said the victims had been held captive since their abduction from Ngoshe community on March 3 and were evacuated to the General Hospital, Gwoza, for medical treatment.
Onoja added that troops also rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight hijacked vehicles along the Buratai-Kamuya road on June 24.
He said troops repelled several terrorist attacks during the month, including coordinated assaults in Buratai District, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, and Rigange community in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to him, troops recovered several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition during the operations.
The Defence Headquarters, DHQ also disclosed that troops arrested suspected terrorist collaborators and logistics suppliers, whose confessions led to further arrests and intelligence breakthroughs.
INCNews247 gathered that on the June 29th, troops reportedly pursued terrorists who attacked Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State and rescued seven abducted schoolchildren and a teacher.
The military, however, said one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force were killed during the encounter.
Onoja said that during the second quarter, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralised 484 terrorists, arrested 370 suspects, rescued 595 kidnapped victims and facilitated the surrender of 38 insurgents and their family members.
