Successful Operations: Troops Rescue 44 Hostages, Apprehend 152 Oil Thieves

The Defence Headquarters has announced significant achievements by the Nigeria Armed Forces in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed the success during a press briefing at the New Conference Room of the Defence Headquarters on Thursday.
Within the last two weeks, troops neutralized 80 terrorists, apprehended 304 others, and handed them over to appropriate authorities. Additionally, 152 individuals involved in crude oil theft were arrested in the Niger Delta, and 44 kidnapped hostages were rescued nationwide.

General Buba provided further details, stating, “In the SS, troops prevented oil theft amounting to N347,173,500.00. The operations resulted in the recovery of 112 assorted weapons, 898 ammunition, and the destruction of illegal refining sites and equipment. Troops also confiscated stolen crude oil and other illicit materials.”
He continued by acknowledging a mishap in Kaduna State, where a drone strike caused the unfortunate death of 81 residents, with 70 others sustaining injuries.
General Buba expressed condolences and assured that an investigation is underway to enhance military operations and minimize civilian casualties.
The senior officer emphasized the military’s commitment to addressing civilian casualties, stating, “The military is determined to handle the situation properly, learn from our experiences, and take measures to prevent civilian casualties in future operations. Protecting civilians is a crucial aspect of our mission to ensure greater security for all Nigerians.”
