Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, killing no fewer than 24 insurgents.
The military disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by the Media Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, who said the attack occurred in the early hours of April 23, 2026.
Uba said the assault, which began shortly after midnight and lasted until about 3:00 a.m., was met with a “swift and coordinated response” by troops, who forced the attackers into a retreat.

“The troops executed a deliberate offensive-defensive operation, effectively containing the assault and forcing the terrorists into a disorderly withdrawal,” he said.
He added that troops inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents, with 24 terrorists confirmed neutralised, while follow-up exploitation of the battlefield led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.
According to him, items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, two PKT machine guns, three Rocket Propelled Grenade tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
Uba further disclosed that two soldiers were wounded during the encounter but had since been stabilised.
“Troops recorded two personnel wounded in action, who have since been stabilised,” he said.
He also revealed that one reinforcing armoured vehicle was damaged during the operation.
“One reinforcing armoured vehicle sustained damage, with all its tyres blown out during the engagement,” he added.
The military spokesperson noted that exploitation operations were ongoing to recover additional bodies and equipment along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes.
“Exploitation operations are ongoing to recover additional bodies and equipment along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, which are littered with blood trails and abandoned medical supplies,” he said.
Uba said the outcome of the operation reaffirmed the resilience and combat readiness of troops in the North-East theatre.
“This successful operation highlights the resilience, combat readiness, and fire superiority of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action,” he said.
He added that troops would sustain offensive operations to consolidate the gains recorded.
“Operations will continue with sustained offensive pressure to consolidate gains and decisively defeat all terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area,” he stated.
Uba noted that the Military High Command had commended the troops for their performance and urged them to maintain the momentum in ongoing operations.
