The Armed Forces of Nigeria have rescued no fewer than 90 civilians from terrorist captivity and recorded fresh operational gains against insurgents in Borno State as military operations intensified across the North-East.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed this on Friday in its weekly operational update covering activities between June 19 and June 25, 2026, stating that sustained military pressure continued to weaken terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, two teenage girls believed to be relatives of terrorists voluntarily surrendered to troops in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on June 19, citing hunger and sustained military offensives as reasons for abandoning the insurgents.

The DHQ also said troops rescued two women and three children abducted during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community in March and reunited them with the community leadership.
In another operation conducted in Kukawa Local Government Area on June 21, troops evacuated 27 surrendered terrorists and their family members, comprising 12 adults and 15 children, from the Jemu area before airlifting them to Maiduguri for medical care and profiling.
On the same day, soldiers rescued eight additional escapees, including a widow of a slain Civilian Joint Task Force member and a toddler.
The military also repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on several communities in Buratai District of Biu Local Government Area, recovering an AK-47 rifle and over 200 rounds of ammunition after forcing the attackers to retreat.
Similarly, troops rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight hijacked vehicles along the Buratai-Kamuya Road on June 24.
The DHQ added that two suspected terrorist spies were neutralised in Banki, Bama Local Government Area, after they allegedly crossed into Nigeria to gather intelligence on troop movements and procure supplies for insurgents.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations until terrorism is completely defeated.
