By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Alhaji Jalal Arabi, has announced the commencement of visa processing for intending pilgrims, indicating that individuals can expect to receive their scheduled airlift dates anytime from now.

Arabi disclosed this during a Ramadan Iftar event held at the Hajj House in Abuja on Friday, while addressing journalists.

Despite initial challenges and uncertainties surrounding the 2024 Hajj preparations, Arabi revealed that over 50,000 Nigerians have been cleared to undertake the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Expressing confidence in this achievement, Arabi described it as a significant milestone and a testament to Nigerians’ resilience amidst challenges such as foreign exchange instability, reforms, and strict deadlines imposed by the Saudi Arabian authorities.

He urged Nigerians to celebrate this accomplishment, highlighting that many countries have officially communicated their inability to meet their quotas to Saudi Arabia.

Arabi stated, “Against all odds, we will carry out Hajj this year on a large scale. We will surpass some powerful countries, as some have relinquished their quotas. We must consistently ensure timely remittance of funds to fulfill logistical requirements and meet Saudi Arabia’s deadlines.”

While emphasizing the importance of adherence to procedures and timelines, Arabi noted, “We are not placing blame, but it’s crucial for all stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities promptly to align with Saudi Arabian authorities. Building success requires diligence and perseverance.”

He affirmed the government’s commitment to achieving success in this endeavor, acknowledging that progress may be gradual but assured that strides are being made.
