Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have rescued world-renowned heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, following a fatal road traffic crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, which claimed the lives of two persons.
INCNews247 reports that the crash occurred on Monday around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, involving a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle conveying the boxer and a stationary commercial truck.
According to a statement issued by the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident was reported at about noon, with rescue teams arriving at the scene within three minutes of notification.

“The prompt response of FRSC operatives ensured swift rescue, evacuation of victims, effective traffic control and prevention of secondary crashes,” the statement said.
Preliminary findings by the Ogun Sector Command revealed that five adult males were involved in the accident.
Two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt.
Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and reportedly sustained minor injuries.
The injured victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.
The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was notified to commence further investigation and documentation.
FRSC disclosed that the Lexus Jeep, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was suspected to have been travelling at excessive speed and lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before crashing into a stationary Sinotruck parked by the roadside.
The Corps attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, noting that both violations remain among the leading causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the injured victim a speedy recovery.
He also reiterated FRSC’s warning to motorists to avoid dangerous driving behaviours, particularly on high-speed corridors such as the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
“Motorists must exercise patience, maintain lane discipline and prioritise safety over haste, especially during the festive travel period,” the statement added.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, emergency response and public enlightenment aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities across the country.
