According to a statement obtained by INCNews247, the NITDA boss expressed confidence in the initiatives outlined by NiRA and urged the association to align more closely with the agency’s strategic goals.
“You have my full approval for these initiatives. Let us change our strategy, sync up more closely, and ensure everything we have agreed upon during this presentation is fully implemented by next year,” Inuwa said.
Speaking on the association’s performance, Akinsanya disclosed that NiRA recorded 98,285 new domain registrations, 71,470 renewals and 1,970 restorations in 2025, bringing the total number of active domains under its management to 241,000.
He added that the association implemented key security enhancements, including the Domain Name System Security Extensions, aimed at improving the security and resilience of internet services for local users.
Akinsanya said NiRA was intensifying efforts to make the .ng and .gov.ng domains the preferred digital identities for government institutions and organisations across the country.
He commended NITDA for its continued support and called for joint awareness campaigns and digital capacity-building programmes to encourage greater adoption among state governments, local councils and public institutions.
The NiRA president further revealed that the association was upgrading its internal systems through automation and constitutional reforms to align with global best practices.
He added that NiRA was also targeting deeper stakeholder engagement, particularly within the startup ecosystem, through partnerships with technology-focused events and initiatives aimed at driving widespread adoption of the .ng domain across all levels of government.
