The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has unveiled a new initiative aimed at equipping corps members with financial literacy, stock trading knowledge and investment skills through a partnership with the Nigerian Exchange Group.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during a visit to the Nigerian Exchange Group, where he participated in the Closing Gong Ceremony in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Nafiu said the collaboration between the NYSC and stakeholders in the Nigerian capital market ecosystem would expose corps members to the fundamentals of stock trading and investment opportunities.

According to him, the partnership is a significant step towards empowering young Nigerians with the knowledge needed to participate effectively in the financial market.

“Today we embrace change, a new relationship that will empower our youths with financial literacy that will open doors of investment opportunities previously out of their reach,” he said.

The NYSC boss described the initiative as long overdue, noting that it would strengthen the Scheme’s mandate of preparing young graduates for productive lives after service.

“This partnership is a commitment to the future by equipping the NYSC to participate in the capital market,” Nafiu added.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, assured the NYSC of the organisation’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Scheme and other stakeholders in the financial sector.

He commended the NYSC for its role in promoting national unity and youth development, noting that the Nigerian financial ecosystem offers numerous opportunities that young people can leverage.

“We see immense opportunity in exploring collaboration with the NYSC to advance financial literacy among corps members across the country,” Kwairanga said.

He added that the partnership would help improve the savings culture among youths and encourage broader participation in activities that support economic growth.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Mr Jude Chiemeka, said the exchange currently boasts over 323 listed securities and provides diverse investment opportunities for investors.

Chiemeka noted that the Nigerian Exchange, regarded as a frontier market, has continued to enjoy strong goodwill and remains connected with several leading stock exchanges across the world.

He described Nafiu’s visit as a positive step towards building a mutually beneficial relationship between the NYSC and the capital market community.
