The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal 1444 AH from Thursday.
This call was made in a statement on Wednesday signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
According to Junaidu, Thursday, April 20, which corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan 1444 AH, is the day to look for the new moon of Shawwal 1444 AH.
Muslims are therefore requested to begin searching for the new moon on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.
The Sultan prayed for Allah’s support for Muslims in the discharge of their religious duty.
The sighting of the new moon will signify the end of one month of compulsory fasting by Muslims across Nigeria.
Shawwal is the 10th month in the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
