ACCI, WADHI Assure Products’ Standardisation of Arahah Farmers Market
The Director General of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Ms Victoria Akai has assured standardisation of Arahah Farmers Market in order to compete globally with other products that are attractive, marketable and competitive.
The Farmers Market, is an initiative of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the Women Arise Development and Humanitarian Initiative (WADHI) which is a women focused market aimed at providing a platform for women to sell their products at discounted prices and also use it as a medium to address their challenges, as well as prepare them for the increase in demand that will come with the AfCFTA.
Ms Akai made the assurance in Abuja on Saturday when she went on-the-spot assessment of the market and how it has been fairing.
The DG said the standardisation couple with capacity building for the farmers to market within and outside Nigeria.
She added that ACCI is liaising with relevant organisations, stakeholders and government institutions to teach them requirements for standardisation of their products.
“We are working with quite a number of international organizations together with Canadian Trade Facilitation, NASIMA among others,” she reiterated.
While corroborating the DG, the Convener of the Women Arise Development and Humanitarian Initiative (WADHI) Mrs Esther Eghobamien-Mshelia promised to establish a business incubation centre in conjunction with ACCI to help the farmers with short courses on costing, pricing and branding.
She said although the idea is to bring farmers to sell their goods directly to the customers, at cheaper rates, yet still, there is need for more standardisation so as to meet both internal and external competitions.
