The Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan, Safiu Olaniyan, has expressed concern over the difficulties being encountered in the evacuation of Nigerians, including students, who are currently trapped in Sudan due to the ongoing insurrection in the country.
Olaniyan noted that the Nigerian embassy in Sudan was not responsible for hiring buses to evacuate the stranded students and urged them to remain calm.
He also clarified that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, were in charge of the buses.

Olaniyan further stated that embassy officials were also impacted by the hardship in Sudan, including lack of food, water, and light, and assured parents and students that they were fully on the ground in Khartoum to ensure their safe evacuation.
He appealed to Nigerians not to take any action against embassy officials, as they were facing the same difficulties as the stranded Nigerians.
The ambassador also provided an update on efforts made by the Nigerian government to secure clearance for Nigerians fleeing Sudan to pass through Egypt.
He stated that everything needed to be done was being done to obtain clearance and urged the stranded Nigerians to remain calm, assuring them that the issues would be resolved within a very short time.
