DHQ Debunks Claims of Bandits Seizing MRAPs in Zamfara

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed claims that bandits seized two Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) from troops during operations in Zamfara State.

According to a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba on Monday, the MRAPs were demobilized due to the inability of troops to extricate them from swampy terrain.

The statement explained that the vehicles got bogged down during a fighting patrol in Zurmi local government area on August 29, due to the swampy terrain occasioned by persistent rain.

Maj-Gen Buba described the bandits’ claim as an attempt to mislead the public, adding that the demobilization of the MRAPs was to prevent them from being useful to the terrorists.

The Military High Command also debunked a viral video claiming to show the mass killing of civilians in Sokoto State, stating that the incident never occurred in Nigeria but in a nearby African country faced with terrorism.

He urged the public to be cautious of the antics of terrorists to propagate misinformation and fake news as part of their war propaganda effort.
