Don’t Be Scammed! NIMC Cautions Public on NIN Change Process

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has dismissed reports alleging that some enrolment agents in Abuja were extorting applicants to alter dates of birth, insisting that all data modification requests are strictly handled online.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke and seen by INCNews247, the Commission stressed that no physical alteration of records is permitted, adding that the official and only approved platform for such services remains the NIMC Self-Service Modification Portal (selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng).

“NIMC does not engage or authorise any agent for data modification,” the Commission clarified, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against extortion, falsification of records, or unethical practices by staff and licensed front-end partners.

The agency urged Nigerians to adhere to laid-down procedures and official fee guidelines when seeking modifications to their National Identification Number (NIN) records.

It further encouraged members of the public to report any case of misconduct or extortion through its dedicated complaint channels — 08155015388, +234-9-134959433, actu@nimc.gov.ng, and ieu@nimc.gov.ng.

Reassuring the public of the integrity of the national identity database, NIMC pledged to continue strengthening transparency, accountability and public trust in Nigeria’s identity management system.
