EFCC: Abdulkarim Chukkol Steps in as Acting Chairman

In light of the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the agency’s Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, is set to assume the role in an acting capacity.
President Bola Tinubu, following the emergence of serious allegations, has instructed the embattled anti-graft czar to step aside pending the completion of an investigation.
A statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, mandates Bawa to hand over his responsibilities to the Director of Operations at the commission.

As per the available information, Abdulkarim Chukkol, a Principal Detective/Investigator at the EFCC, will assume the leadership position until a new substantive head is appointed for the anti-graft agency.
Chukkol holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maiduguri in 2000 and later pursued a Post-Graduate Diploma in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, United States, in 2011. Additionally, he possesses a diploma in Cybersecurity and Spectrum Monitoring.
Having joined the EFCC in 2003, Chukkol has steadily progressed through the ranks, earning the position of Principal Detective and Director of Operations.
He has also undergone training at the FBI National Academy in Quantico.
Previously, he served as the head of the Port Harcourt zonal office before being reassigned to the headquarters in Abuja.
Chukkol assumed the role of Director of Operations following the departure of Mohammed Abba, who returned to the Nigeria Police Force after serving as Acting Chairman during Magu’s suspension.
