Nigerian Military Rescues 137 Abducted Kuriga School Children

The Armed Forces of Nigeria have confirmed the successful rescue of 137 pupils from LEA School Kuriga in Chikun LG of Kaduna State, who were kidnapped on March 7, 2024.
Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, stated this in a press release, noting that the collaborative efforts with local authorities and government agencies across the country led to their rescue in the early hours of March 24, 2024.
General Buba emphasized, “The rescued hostages, comprising 76 females and 61 males, were rescued in Zamfara State and will be conveyed and handed over to the Kaduna State Government for further action.”

He also highlighted a previous successful rescue mission, stating, “Relatedly, on March 21, 2024, troops rescued 16 pupils (Almajiris) with a woman taken hostage in Gada LGA of Sokoto State. These hostages were handed over to the Sokoto State Government.”
General Buba reiterated the armed forces’ commitment to finding other innocent hostages and tracking down the terrorists responsible for these crimes.
“These efforts will continue until all hostages are found, and the terrorists are arrested, tried, and brought to justice under Nigerian law,” he affirmed.
He further assured that similar effort to trackdown the culprits responsible for the killings of 18 soldiers in Okuama Community in Delta State ongoing, stating, “Justice awaits the culprits, as they cannot go unpunished.”
