NPC Warns Against Paying for Ad hoc Staff Slots in Upcoming Census

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The National Population Commission (NPC) has issued a warning against individuals who may be seeking to engage in the upcoming national population and housing census as ad hoc staff and are asked to pay for slots.

The NPC stated that it is a criminal offence to request money from applicants, and anyone found guilty will be dealt with accordingly.

Adamu Awe, an NPC special agent, reiterated that the Commission is not asking temporary job seekers to pay for their services.

Awe advised applicants not to engage in any transaction with anyone requiring payment and to report such cases immediately with evidence of payment to enable the NPC to take action against the fraudsters.

Awe stated, “We can’t arrest or deal with those fraudsters without having evidence to prove.”

The NPC also encouraged applicants to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals.

The NPC’s warning is significant, as it is essential to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the national census, which is critical for planning and development purposes. The public must heed the NPC’s warning and report any fraudulent activity to safeguard the integrity of the census exercise.
