A renowned philanthropist and the founder of MOK Foundation, Muyideen Okunlola Kayode has emphasized the crucial role of the media in bridging the gap between government social investment programs and private grassroots philanthropy.

Speaking at the Strategic Media Seminar organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sobi FM Chapel in Ilorin on Friday, Kayode noted that despite the Nigerian government’s efforts to launch social investment programs, a significant gap remains between these programs and the needs of vulnerable populations.

He highlighted the critical role of private grassroots philanthropy in filling this gap, citing the example of his own foundation, the MOK Foundation, which has provided assistance to over 29,000 people in Kwara State in the last 18 months.

“The media has a vital role to play in addressing this gap,” Kayode said.

“It can provide a platform for raising awareness about the needs of vulnerable populations and the importance of social investment programs. It can also facilitate collaboration and coordination between government programs and private grassroots philanthropy, and hold government and private philanthropists accountable for their actions.”

He added that his foundation has been leveraging media houses, both local and conventional, to spread the word about its philanthropic efforts.

He pledged a long-term partnership with media strategists and enthusiasts, underscoring the importance of collaboration between the media, government, and private philanthropy in creating a more just and equitable society for all Nigerians.

The seminar, which was attended by media practitioners, provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss the role of the media in promoting social development and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
