Motorists travelling on major highways across the country have hailed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its Free Water Campaign, describing it as a timely intervention that eased stress and improved safety during the Yuletide travel season.
The initiative, introduced by the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and implemented nationwide, involves the distribution of bottled water to motorists and passengers on key routes to help curb fatigue, dehydration and loss of concentration associated with long-distance festive journeys.

Speaking on the campaign, Mohammed said the exercise was part of broader efforts by the Corps to prevent crashes by promoting driver alertness and wellbeing.
“Road safety goes beyond enforcement. A refreshed and alert driver is a safer driver, and if offering something as simple as water can help save lives on our roads, then it is a responsibility we must embrace,” he said.
Many motorists welcomed the initiative, describing it as thoughtful and unprecedented.
Some road users said the gesture helped reduce stress on busy highways and demonstrated a more humane approach to traffic management by the Corps.
However, FRSC personnel also sensitised motorists on safe driving practices, warning against speeding, fatigue driving, overloading and reckless behaviour, which are common causes of crashes during festive periods.
FRSC therefore urged motorists to remain patient, alert and law-abiding, assuring Nigerians of its continued presence on the highways to ensure safer journeys.
