Muritala Adebayo: How Kidnappers Abducted US-based Businessman in Ilorin

By Alabidun Shuaib Abdulrahman

Barely few weeks after returning from abroad, Mr. Muritala Adebayo, a United States-based businessman, has been kidnapped with his abductors demanding 60 million naira as ransom, INCNews247 can authoritatively report.

Adebayo, 40, is reportedly planning to return to his base in US before his abduction on Thursday, last week.

INCNews247 gathered that the daredevil criminals, numbering about 15, had stormed the victim’s farm ar at Ogele/Panpoor Area in Asa Local Government of Kwara State.

Armed with dangerous weapons, they shot sporadically into the air to scare people, before whisking away with Adebayo.

A relative said the abductors have contacted their family members, threatening to kill their brother if 60 million naira is not paid before Monday (tomorrow).

His brother, Mr. Moshood Adebayo also confirmed the incident, saying they have so far managed to raised 500,000 naira.

“I was contacted yesterday, after they kidnapped him on Thursday. We are depressed and disturbed. They requested for 100 million and later 60 million. But we have only raised 500,000 naira, which the kidnappers have rejected.

“They told us that the victim has already promised them 5 million naira. But we know Adebayo is under duress when he told them that.

“We are calling on the Kwara state government, security agencies and anybody that can be of help to come to our aid. We do not want anything bad to happen to him,” said Moshood.

Adebayo, INCNews247 learnt, was in his country home on the advice of his friends and family members to return and invest in Nigeria, most especially Ilorin, as a way of impacting and giving back to his immediate community.

“I am one of those who asked him to come and invest here at home, and he planned it in a very big way. He intends to empower people through his investment in farming. Here it is now, he has been abducted,” a friend of the kidnapped US-based businessman told INCNews247.

Another friend said he is surprised as to how Adebayo’s abductors got to know everything about him.

He said, “The situation is somehow puzzling. How they knew everything about him is strange. How they knew he has a house in Agric area and bought a car for his uncle is surprising.”

It was also learnt that the kidnappers had contacted the wife of Mr. Adebayo, who resides in the United States, asking her to pay the ransom or they kill her spouse.

Kwara State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, was contacted on phone, but did not respond at the time of filling this report.
