The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON has denied allegations of nepotism, describing them as outrightly “false” and “deliberate misinformation”.

The Commission’s response comes amidst recent media reports suggesting that its leadership had engaged in nepotistic practices.

In a statement obtained by INCNews247 on Friday, Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publications, NAHCON, stated, “Regarding allegations of nepotism, we in the Commission categorically state that appointments and assignments within NAHCON are guided strictly by due process. Specifically, the claim that Professor Abdullahi Saleh has appointed his son as a Personal Assistant within the Commission is false.”

Usara noted that NAHCON’s leadership is committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that all appointments and assignments within the Commission are guided strictly by due process.

“The Commission’s operations are guided by its regulatory framework and civil service procedures, which ensure fairness, equity, and transparency in all our dealings,” Usara explained.

Regarding staff welfare, she said NAHCON acknowledges the important role of staff unions in advocating for employee welfare as the Commission’s leadership is guided by its regulatory framework and civil service procedures.

The Commission also addressed allegations of mismanagement, stating that it has been working tirelessly to ensure a smooth Hajj operation for Nigerian pilgrims.

“Our priority is to focus on our core responsibility of ensuring a successful Hajj operation,” she said.

“While NAHCON welcomes constructive feedback, we implore pressmen and their aiders to keep discussions about NAHCON’s leadership and operations factual, valuable and free from sensationalism.

“NAHCON’s management remains open to address any legitimate concerns through the appropriate channels rather than media campaigns designed to mislead the public,” she reiterated.
