Hundreds of staff members at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, are facing dire circumstances amidst uncertainty over their employment status and unpaid salaries, according to findings by INCNews247.
The situation, it was learnt, arose following recruitment drives held between November 2022 and early 2023, during which promises of employment were made to numerous individuals.
While some were promptly employed and received salaries, others found themselves in limbo, awaiting integration into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

However, hopes were shattered in August 2023 when rumors of job racketeering emerged, prompting investigations and certificate verifications.
According to a source who craves for anonymity, said this led to a circular issued on January 31st, 2024, terminating the appointments of over 1,500 staff members, leaving them without compensation for the 13-16 months they had served.
The affected staff, the source added, understandably outraged, are demanding justice from the federal government and OAUTHC management.
“They highlight the failure to receive salaries owed to them, despite their dedication and investment in the onboarding processes,” he corroborated, adding that “CMD PRO, Oke Niyi’s acknowledgement of administrative lapses, further fueled discontent among the staff”.
Adding to their frustrations, INCNews247 further gathered was a planned peaceful protest halted by the intervention of the Oni of Ife, who imposed a writing exam as a condition for further dialogue. This move has been met with skepticism, viewed as a delay tactic in addressing legitimate concerns.
