In Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli airstrikes have killed 35 Palestinians and injured dozens more, according to Palestinian health and civil emergency service officials.
INCNews247 learnt the attack targeted a site designated for displaced persons.
The Israeli military confirmed the airstrike, stating that its air force targeted a Hamas compound in Rafah using “precise ammunition and based on precise intelligence.”
The military asserted that the operation resulted in the assassination of Hamas’ West Bank chief of staff and another senior figure responsible for attacks against Israelis.
An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson acknowledged reports indicating that the strike and subsequent fire injured civilians in the area, saying IDF is currently investigating these reports.
Ashraf Al-Qidra, spokesperson for the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, reported that 35 people were killed and dozens were injured in the strike, with the majority being women and children.
INCNews247 further gathered that the attack occurred in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood of western Rafah, where thousands of residents had sought refuge after fleeing the eastern sections of the city due to an ongoing Israeli ground offensive that began more than two weeks ago.
The International Committee of the Red Cross reported that its field hospital in Rafah is experiencing an influx of casualties, with other hospitals also receiving a large number of patients.
