Sowore Slams Peter Obi Over Selective Tax Proposal

In a scathing critique posted on his verified on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts on Monday, Omoyele Sowore, the former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), didn’t mince words as he lashed out at one of Nigeria’s political elites, Peter Obi.
Sowore, known for his outspoken activism, condemned what he perceives as the cluelessness of the country’s leaders, accusing them of blindly adopting slogans from other countries without understanding their context or relevance to Nigeria’s challenges.
“These guys are just so DUMB, so dumb they wake up and ‘Copy and Paste’ slogans from other climes,” Sowore declared in his post, which garnered significant attention on social media.

He specifically targeted Mr. Peter Obi, alleging that the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party Presidential candidate in the last election had embarked on a misguided trip to Egypt under the pretext of learning about electricity generation, only to return with little substantive knowledge.
“Now he is here asking to ‘tax the rich’ as if the electricity tariff increase is not for the same rich and overfed good-for-nothing rich buccaneers, as if fuel subsidy removal was not meant to benefit the Nigerian nouveau rich, as if the rich pay taxes,” Sowore continued, highlighting what he sees as the hypocrisy of the political class.
“They support their Uncle Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to decimate the poor; as soon as the poor are further decimated, they start commissioning boreholes for them. DUMB People!” Sowore exclaimed.
The former Presidential candidate concluded his post with a pointed question about the feasibility of taxing the rich, particularly those who conceal their wealth in offshore tax havens.
