Stop Harassing Civilians Over Dreadlocks– Gen. Diya to Military

By Roselyn James

Brigadier General Olusola Diya, the Bridge Commander overseeing 14 Brigade Ohafia, has called upon the public to report any instances of soldiers or military personnel mistreating civilians based on their possession of dreadlocks.

Diya made this appeal during the 33rd social media seminar held in Aba, Abia State, which gathered media professionals and social media influencers.

He said possessing dreadlocks is not illegal and condemned any military action targeting individuals solely for this reason.

While dreadlocks are sometimes associated with online scams, Diya stressed that military actions against civilians sporting dreadlocks constitute a violation of their constitutional rights.

Responding to concerns about the legality of military actions at checkpoints, where dreadlocked commuters are reportedly harassed, the Brigade Commander clarified that without any legislation regulating citizens’ dress code, it is inappropriate for military personnel to enforce nonexistent regulations.

Diya warned that any military personnel found mistreating commuters due to their dreadlocks would face severe consequences.

“If you witness such unprofessional behavior,” he stated, “please provide us with the soldier’s name and the location of the checkpoint, and we will take appropriate action.”
