The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has announced that a 100MVA transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja developed a fault in the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident affected the 100MVA TR4 transformer, resulting in the loss of bulk power supply to four 33kV feeders connected to the facility.
The affected feeders are H31, H33, H35 and H37, leaving customers supplied through the feeders without electricity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN said preliminary findings indicated that oil had spilled from the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer.

The company said its maintenance crew had commenced a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate repairs.
“Consequently, four 33kV feeders, including feeder H31, H33, H35, and H37 are currently out of supply,” the statement said.
TCN explained that the investigation was necessary to establish the cause of the fault and enable its engineers to carry out the required repairs before restoring the transformer to service.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company supplied through the affected feeders.
It assured residents that its engineers were working to restore bulk power supply through the affected transformer as quickly as possible.
“Maintenance crew are already carrying out detailed investigation on the transformer, to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” TCN said.
The transmission company urged affected electricity consumers to bear with the situation while efforts were ongoing to rectify the fault and restore supply.
